R.I.V.E.R.

Real-time IoT-based Visualization and Early-warning for Resilience

ARCHIVED JavaScript 2025–2026

Archived Project R.I.V.E.R. flood monitoring and early-warning system, combining hardware, machine learning, databases, and web/mobile applications.

Overview

R.I.V.E.R. was built as a Science and Technology Fair project. It monitors environmental conditions at upstream and downstream points along a waterway and tries to give communities advance warning before flooding happens. The system ties together physical sensor devices, a backend server, a PostgreSQL database, a machine-learning weather-prediction component, and separate web and Android interfaces.

Structure

  • android — Android application for civilian use.
  • back — Backend services, including the machine-learning components.
  • device / upstream, downstream — Physical IoT monitoring devices and the alarm-activation device.
  • front — Website frontend for data visualization.
  • middle — Middleware connecting and securing communication between components.

Results & limitations

  • Not intended to be considered production-ready software.
  • Security practices used during development were not production-grade.
  • Some components were tightly coupled; documentation was written for maintenance, not public distribution.
